On Dec 5th the Westford & District Pipes and Drums had the extreme pleasure of performing Highland Cathedral with the Westford Academy High School Band at their winter concert. Using Gibson B flat (466hz) chanters with Gilmore reeds along with drone extenders we were able to tune nicely to the symphonic band and produce a very nice sound. A tip of the hat to the talented musicians of the Westford Academy and to their Director Mr George Arsenault who were able to put this combined arrangement together in less than two weeks. We had one dress rehearsal on Dec 3rd and the performance was just two days later. Outstanding work by all. A video of the concert will be posted shortly on our Facebook page and on YouTube
The Fall season was relatively quiet for the Band. We kicked off September by marching in the Milford NH Labor Day parade. This was a first for the band and we do look forward to marching again next year.
Join us as we take part in the various 4th of July parades this coming long holiday weekend.
On July 1st we will be marching in the Pepperell 4th of July parade. The parade starts at Pepperell Town Hall on Main St, proceeds to Groton st then to Tarbell St finally ending at the VFW Post 3291 on Leighton St. The parade starts at 1230pm.
Memorial Day weekend the unofficial start to summer was also our start of a very busy month of June. Our busy season however actually began mid May with the Westford Apple Blossom parade and a fun filled first of two band cookouts. Capping off two weeks of Memorial Day parades/ceremonies, May 21 Lowell Ceremony, May 28th in Westford and May 29th in Winchester MA we began a month of various events.
May 5th the band helped to celebrate the Grand Opening of The Monument Tap in Leominster. We had a great time performing and enjoying a couple of pints too. A great pub do check it out. https://www.facebook.com/themonumenttap/
