Welcome!

Westford & District Pipes and Drums is a fire service pipe band made up of Public Safety personnel and civilians who support the mission of the band.

Year end wrap up

An excellent end to an excellent year.  The fourth quarter began with us taking part in the NH Memorial Stair climb on September 7th honoring and remembering the firefighters and police who died in the World Trade Center attacks of 9/11. We were honored to play for the opening ceremony. We were also honored to take part in two additional ceremonies on September 11th as the Chelmsford Fire Dept dedicated its 9/11 memorial and then on 9/13 to dedicate the new Groton Fire Headquarters. The month was not without sadness as we held true to our mission and piped to his final rest a retired Pelham NH Firefighter on Sept 18th.   Ending on an upbeat we finished the month of September by taking part in the NH Highland Games Sept 19-21.  The band competed in the Grade 5 level and placed 15th with very respectable comments. We were very pleased to have our newest members out on the field of competition and their hard work contributed to seeing an improvement in our standings.  Pipe Sgt Rick Tustin competed in the Grade 4Sr Piobaireachd solo competition on Sunday and finished fourth.  Congratulations to Pipe Sgt Tustin and the entire band. A very usy month of September.

Compared to September, October and November were relatively quiet for the band.  On October 12th a few members of the band headed to Tauton Ma to take part in the Chad Laverie fundraiser and on November 11th we once again took part in the Westford Veterans Day ceremony.

Typically December would be a very quiet month for the band filled with just rehearsals as we wind down the year and get ready for the Robert Burns Dinner in January but not this year.  Members of the band joined other pipe bands on December 3rd to honor the 15th anniversary of the Worcester Cold Storage fire and the loss of six Worcester firefighters.  Dec 7th we were invited to join ranks with the Greater Boston Pipes and Drums and march in the Maynard Christmas parade.  We were able to send a few of our members to fill the ranks and the weather cooperated by not being too cold.  December 13th we found ourselves back in Chelmsford MA to take part in their dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony for their new fire headquarters.  We will finish out the month by opening and closing the graduation ceremony for class #51 of the Call/Vol Recruit Training program at the MA Firefighting Academy.  Billy Stone Jr son of Drum Sgt Bill Stone will be among the graduates and we will be honored to pipe the class in.

2014 was a very busy and productive year for the band with us taking part in 25 events over the course of the year.

Next up as we welcome the new year will be the 26th Annual Robert Burns Dinner on January 31st, hosted by the Scots Highland Pipe Band and once again we have been invited back to be the guest band.  More to follow but mark your calendars for a night of fun and music.
